Cleaning your home daily and disinfecting touchpoints has become a priority with the pandemic. But, cleaning your home is also really important before moving in, for viewings or when you vacate a property. To get you on the right track we’re providing some cleaning tips for moving.

It goes deeper than just wiping the surfaces. If you’re vacating and moving out of your property there could be areas you haven’t cleaned in a very long time for example, behind the fridge.

For prospective buyers coming to view your property, they may look further than the surface. It’s common to take a look inside the kitchen cupboards or even inside the oven. That’s why being thorough while cleaning is very important.

Here are our cleaning tips for moving:

  • Start by having all your cleaning supplies

Create a list and get everything you need, you don’t want to be running in and out to the shops to get the missing cleaning supplies. This includes your tools as well as products and detergents.

  • Clean high to low

Dust and dirt collect higher than the areas we can see on our eye level, remember to reach lighting fixtures or other features close to the ceiling. It is also recommended to clean high to low because done the other way around, you may have to clean twice as the dirt or dust falls onto the lower section.

  • Work from the outer to inner centre of a room

Starting at the corners of the room and working your way in will ensure every section is cleaned. It’s easy to hop from one area to another and forget the little areas in between.

  • Put the fridge high up on the list

If you are moving into a new home, cleaning the fridge should be one of the first jobs. You don’t want to leave your perishable goods out for too long and since it’s empty, it shouldn’t take long to clean. Sanitising the fridge and the shelves will also help neutralise the odour of the fridge.

  • Finish with floors

You will want to have cleaned the area before finishing with the floors or you could spend extra time vacuuming every time something new drops onto it.

Also, bear in mind what kind of flooring you have. To avoid any damage, it’s best to check if the cleaning product is suitable for that type of flooring.

  • Don’t forget…

To put on your favourite playlist, audiobook or podcast. Cleaning will be a lot more enjoyable!

Specific areas that are typically forgotten about:

  • Skirting boards
  • Door frames
  • Ceiling fans
  • Cooker hoods
  • Tops of large appliances
  • Window sills
