Are you selling this summer or planning to in the near future? To achieve the best possible price, there are several things you can do to add value to your home.

With the summer season in full swing, it’s the right time to get your DIY on, indoors or outdoors. The longer, lighter days will give you plenty of time to achieve what you need to.

It could be little tasks, it could be something bigger. If you are thinking about carrying out a bigger job, think of it as putting money in to get more out.

What can I do to add value?

  • Knock down a wall, make it open plan

Open plan living is a popular feature, it makes the space bigger and the common space creates a more social atmosphere.

  • Do up your kitchen

Sounds like a big job but it doesn’t have to be, if your kitchen is still in great condition maybe it’s just the aesthetic of it that needs to be updated. Simply the handles or colour of the cupboards.

  • Bathroom too

A fresh, hygienic bathroom is definitely going to help win over buyers. Ensure it looks attractive and clean. Even changing the type of shower head can make a difference.

  • Parking space

The security of having a parking space is a great way to add value. It could be a decider for a buyer or a main requirement they have. If you have a front garden, you can use some of it to turn it into a parking space.

  • Ensuite

An extra bathroom to make a bedroom a master bedroom will definitely give a luxurious appeal and will add value to your home.

  • Do the back garden

With the great summer weather we’ve been having the last few years, a garden is a bonus and a lot more appreciated. Decking, landscaping or even some solar garden lights can spruce it up.

  • Give it a lick of paint

You might not redecorate your house often but the difference can be seen when a new lick of paint is given. Try to keep colours neutral to give it a fresh and light feeling.

  • Convert loft space/cellar

Converting extra space into another room is an alternative to extending your home if you can. An extra room adds extra value.

  • Structural defects

Those jobs you may not have got round to like damp, cracks on walls or missing roof tiles will definitely help with the value of your home.

The amount of value each of the above tips can add will vary and we understand it can be down to your own situation, each selling journey is different.
